Bajaj Pulsar 150cc Ownership Review

I’m Santhosh and I bought the Bajaj Pulsar 150cc three months ago. It had been my dream bike for quite a while. How I got this bike is a long story. I actually looked at many bikes for two months before I finally bought the Bajaj Pulsar 150cc. Getting this bike was not easy however. I ran into problems when I tried to convince my dad that this bike was the one. However, in the end I managed to do it.
One of the things that I like the most about this bike is its looks. It looks really good and it can turn many heads. The new speedometer is very stylish and it has a lot of features (the negative part about having a great looking speedometer is that it’s easily happened that you end up looking at the speedometer too much, causing you too crash. Don’t do that.)
The new clip on its handles plays a huge role in handling of the bike. On the UG version the driver’s seat is also slightly lower than it is on the previous versions which make this bike a bit more appealing if you’re of average size. You may however experience some back pain when you’re carrying a huge load or when you’re driving on the highway.
The Bajaj Pulsar 150cc UG 4.5 comes with a 29mm size carburetor which is 8mm bigger than what the older version has. This increases its power from 14.09 PS to 15.06 PS at 9000 RPM. This is not a huge difference compared to the old version however. Its Nitro X shock absorber is awesome. It makes for a smoother and less bumpy ride.
It has front telescopic shocks which are really good for handling motorbikes.
However, there is a small problem when it comes to the shifting of gears. It suffers a bit between the 1st gear and neutral. From the 2nd gear and beyond it works well. However, while you’re stopping the bike you may need to shift back to the 1st gear which can be a bit tricky so it requires some practice.
This bike also has the self-starter feature which is great compared to its older versions and the DTS engine adds a little plus point to the self-starter. The battery lasts long and it’s easy to maintain.
From my own experience, the mileage gives you around 45-50 km/litre if you ride the bike at around 55 km/h. The bike has a good throttle response but I advise you to never try and accelerate the speed of the bike too quick. With slower acceleration the engine will be given more life.
How fast does this bike go? Well, I’ve reached around 70 km/h with this bike. I recommend however that you drive this bike at a speed around 50-60 km/h which is a good speed for the 150cc engine. If you go up beyond 75 km/h the bike ride still goes smooth but when the speed slows down the engine makes a lot of noise, which can’t be a good sign.
One of the reasons why I went for the 150cc Pulsar is because 150cc works well with the road in India. What is the point in getting a 200cc or 220cc Pulsar if it doesn’t have any mileage? Also, if you go for a bike above 150cc the bike parts will also be more expensive. Another reason why the 135cc or the 150cc version is a great choice is because both these versions have the kick-starter. This will save you if your battery dies out.

Bajaj Pulsar 200cc DTSi Ownership Review

Hi guys! My name is Vikrant Singh. I am crazy Lover of My Pulsar 200 DTSi. I learnt how to ride on this bike so I am deeply attached with my bike. I have named her “VIK3″. If I speak about VIK3, there is a lot to talk and I won’t stop. But I realized that this is not a place for stories, its review so let me get down to the important points that I looked when I planned to purchase a bike.
Looks: I guess looks of this bike was one good reason for the rising sales of the pulsar in high segment category. It’s not a secret that the sales for P220 were somewhere affected because of this naked street fighter looking bike.
The main attraction is the Silencer that matches with the bike perfectly. Split seats and the front small faring covering the tank just enhances the looks of this bike which makes it look meaner and sexier.
Handling, Highways: You will simply love this bike when you ride it on the highways. You may feel that it’s just made for it till you take a steep corner and you hear the middle stand screech against the ground (If you have a Pillion with you). Its lighter and faster, overtaking on the straights is the best, cornering I guess could have been better (you may feel the cornering is not so good only if you’ve been riding extremely good bikes like R15 which is the best for cornering and moving out of the corners swiftly) otherwise this will feel like the perfect bike for you.
Handling, City: City handling is good but I have felt that the front fork could have been a bit better to make handling better in city. The braking is simply good considering the drum brake for the rear. If you ride in the city a lot, keep a close check on your clutch plates for replacement on time as they wear sooner than expected.
Handling, Off Roads: Simply Awesome! I don’t know why but I feel it performs outstandingly well on off roads too. The engine doesn’t heat so quickly and that’s a very good plus point for off road riding.
Overall Performance: When you want her to be smooth and easy for cruiser feel, she will behave like a cruiser and the next moment if you become a monster she will be your shadow. Amazing pick up! Amazing mid and top Range! Excellent mileage if taken good care and Good Braking too! What else can you ask for.
Comfort: It gives you a race riding posture after you are on it, so yes I agree due to its seating arrangement it may not be the most comfortable bike and if, you are on a long riding trip then you sure gonna have a sore butt. Well for me i don’t care about that much, but if you do then you might want to test ride one of your friends bike to see how comfortable it feels for you.
Electronically Speaking: The main point to focus on this point is that the bike does not come with a Kick Start. Only electric start and yes if you maintain your battery good then you should have no problems with that. Few things are observed that the engine heat side stand, oil and air filter blockage indicators on the digital console tend to act weird after sometime. One or few of them may keep blinking or remain switched on(Side stand Indicator). Other than that if you give your bike for a wash at a washing center then please instruct him not to spray a lot near the CDI device which is under your seat that may damage it.
Service: Please do not expect a lot form the Bajaj service centers and be alert and smart while dealing with them they try to con a lot and please cross check if your work is done as mentioned in the manual.
Watch Out For:
  • Rear disc and heavy front fork can help a lot.
  • Headlights not so good on the Highway but that can be fixed.
  • Replace your Coil with an avenger 180′s coil that will give you a better power output and good beam intensity.
  • Engine noise is a bit noisier than a Honda engine.
  • Regularly servicing the bike will help with good performance for a long time.Hope This info helps you a bit if not a lot.
Final Verdict: If you are convinced that this is the bike you want then go for the better and improvised version Pulsar 220 without the faring it seriously rocks and is a great value for money!!

Bajaj Pulsar 135LS User Review

Hello friends. I am Gaurav Jain & its my pleasure to present the ownership review of my Bajaj Pulsar 135LS here.
Looks & Styling: Bajaj Pulsar 135LS looks are most importantly distinct from other Pulsars which are almost identical to each other. It’s a new member of the pulsar family without having the same monotonous looks. The LED tail lamps, split seats, alloy wheels, twin pilot lamps & a good shaped fuel tank add to its grace. Bajaj has showed some serious concern for its looks by changing its rear mudguard which looked not so good in the earlier version of Pulsar135 LS. Overall Pulsar 135LS has an aggressive & sporty look.
Engine & Performance: One of the greatest strength of this bike is its world’s first Four Valve 135cc DTS-i engine which gives wonderful pick up with brilliant fuel efficiency. I was amazed on opening the throttle & seeing the bike leaving behind all the vehicles on road.
This was actually the first time I rode the bike aggressively to test its real performance and in-spite of that the bike delivers an amazing acceleration of 0-60 kmph in just 5.1 secs as claimed by Bajaj. The bike has a five speed gearbox that cruises in top gear with smooth acceleration.
Fuel efficiency: The bikes unique engine & technology are enough to assure a good mileage of about 55-65kmpl. But the mileage I guess also depends on the riding habits of the rider (you cannot expect such a mileage from any bike by riding it on 100kmph very frequently, just like my friend got a mileage of just 35kmpl on his Stunner with his harsh riding habits). But it gives the above mentioned average with normal riding habits which I guess I have like driving the bike normally between 40-50kmph and don’t mind being aggressive sometimes in the traffic.
Comparison: A product in today’s market is bound to face competition. So I’ve found my Pulsar135 to be the king of the bikes in 125-150cc segment in respect of its performance. Some of the good points that i found in my bike are;
  • Power of 13.5bhp in a 135cc engine which is on the higher side than all the bikes in 125-135cc segment and is almost equal to the power delivered by many powerful 150cc engines.
  • Light weight bike of about 122 kg gives it an acceleration of 0-60 kmph in just 5.1 secs which can beat almost all the bikes in the 150cc segment in this respect including Stunner, YamahaFZ & Fazer which are a bit better in looks but the performance of Pulsar135 compensates it all.
  • A top speed of 115kmph which is similar to the bikes in 150cc segment.
So, comparing all the listed points above, its even better than many of the bikes in 150cc segment in terms of its performance.

PROS

Some of the convenient features I found in the bike are:
  • Kick and Electric start with auto choke: No starting problem in cold weather.
  • Digital Speedo Meter: A unique feature of Bajaj’s bikes in this segment.
  • Pass Switch: Giving easy dipper & flash to the vehicles while overtaking.
  • Engine Kill Switch: Easy turning off the engine for short intervals at the signals.
  • Battery charge status indicator: Tells when the battery comes to a low charged condition.
  • Trip meter: Can be used to check the mileage of the bike or distance between two places easily.

CONS

I’ve said a lot about the cool features of this bike but now is the time to tell about some difficulties I faced with my Pulsar 135LS:
  • Colour choice: I didn’t have much choice of colour while selecting a color for it as its available in just 2 colors. But I am happy with the midnight black which looks good.
  • Fuel tank capacity: Its fuel tank capacity is 8ltrs in which 2.5ltrs is reserve. So the fuel tank capacity is low as compared to other bikes. But I guess the good mileage it gives compensates for that.
  • Engine Vibrations: Its engine starts vibrating at the speed of about 50kmph. But I’ve heard its normal for an engine to vibrate when its stressed. So its not actually a bad thing about the bike.
  • Fuel meter: Its fuel meter sometimes shows a slightly wrong fuel information. The reserve sign sometimes appear even when the bike can go about 25km without using the reserve.
  • Gear shifting: I initially faced some problems with its downshifting & the gearbox sometimes seemed to be hard. But everything was resolved after the first service & the gearbox is really smooth now.
  • Pillion seat: Some people found its pillion seat to be a bit uncomfortable .
Final Verdict: I think it to be a great bike in the 125- 150cc segment for those looking for beauty with the brains. It’s a stylish, sporty and economical bike in the long run & has an on-road-price of about Rs. 58,000. No doubt its ever increasing sales figures are an epitome of its excellent performance. Just test drive it to have an idea of its performance.

Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTSi Ownership

Hi guys, my name is Vishnu and a proud owner of Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTSi, the naked street version. Purchased the bike on October 21st, 2010 and have done 524 kms on the ODO as of now. The maximum speed that i’ve attained effortlessly is 122Kmph and here goes my review.
My Views on my Pulsar 220: Engine feels very smooth. Engine feel is similar to Zma. The 21bhp figure although doesn’t ‘feel’ so much initially, its real power is felt above the 80’s. Thanks to the 19nm Torque. Not saying its initial power is bad, just emphasizing about the high end power. Just compared it to RTR and felt it doesn’t ‘jump’ initially like that. The reason behind it is the bikes weight. Mileage of ~40 is a blessing and pretty sure to get 45-50 on highways. I couldn’t say a single complaint to the service personal while going in for 1st Service! That was a huge plus bcoz my first Pulsar 150 wasn’t quite like that. Headlights have been very impressive till now. You put on the high beam and without doubt a ‘hesitant’ driver coming in your opposite direction will dim his lights! I ride in what you call the “bumper-to-bumper” traffic atleast 60% of my daily drive, so I guess the alternator and charging system are perfect with the all new DC system. Horn is a semi-let down. On highways at high speeds while overtaking trucks this horn could be a let down but for the city use its just fine.
Riding posture: very similar to Hero Honda Karizma again. No back ache, no wrist or fore arm pain. I said this because I had that bitter experience with R15 when I took test drive for a mere 8kms. Pulsar 220 stance is sporty and we feel very confident while braking.
Suspension: The suspensions are better than normal Pulsars. Does reasonably well over minors potholes and bumps. The swing arm is brilliant. But once u dive into a conventionally large pothole in the road, your back could take a beating. I’ve also heard that Yamaha R15 is better in this regard. Pulsar 220 lands into huge potholes with a thud sound.
Tyres: The stock tyre and the grip it offers are amazing. Wide and softcompound combination is really wonderful. Had to undergo harsh braking for a couple of times, everything was perfect and actually the performance was quite unlike the older pulsars. No vibes felt till now. Nor from the body neither from the fairings or anywhere. Some say build quality is bad, which i just wonder why.
Brakes: Rear disc brakes have improved the overall braking feature. I used to often envy the Dazzler’s rear brakes. But now with the rear disc that problem is solved! Both disc brakes work reall well. Being heavy has an advantage. Has in fact more advantages than drawbacks.
Pulsar 220 at 152 kgs is cool which makes the bike feel planted in the road always. On highways a 120kg R15 in comparison looks funny, although its design makes up for it. But any day Bullet owners will agree that weight is a big factor for handling. It handles quite well in city too with this weight though but may be not as much as our old Pulsar 180 or the new RTR. But straight line stability of P220 DTSi is simply unbeatable. Gearbox has been very slick. No false neutrals or slips. Everything slots in well.

Cons:

  • The design of the REAR mudguard/ tyre has somewhere gone bad. While riding on wet roads, the dirt comes directly onto the riders legs!!! Not to mention the legs of the pillion. It just ‘sprays’ dirt all over the place. Bajaj should do something about that.
  • Obviously the rear view mirrors are just 25% useful. Rest 75% is covered by your arms. And mind you Iam just 65kgs. I wonder what ll happen if a 90kg man sits on it. It would be 100% useless.
  • I have noticed a few P200 with some disturbing noise from the engine. Yest after a continuous 25km – 80-100kmph drive I reached back home. Noticed a slight sound from the engine. But it was some noise like a pump rotating, not exactly a sound from the engine. I guess it’s the oil pump which is on work. Nothing to worry. Iam a person who really gets down into minor things while driving a vehicle be it a car or bike. So don’t mistake it to be a huge sound! But in short, these new Bajaj performance bikes will make some noise from the engine and the initial ‘super’ refinement will be lost after riding for a while. That’s the base problem with Bajaj engines in comparison with Honda engines like the ones on Unicorn or even the Honda engine used in Hero Honda Karizma.
My verdict: Pulsar 220 DTSi was a value for money for me. The goodies Bajaj offers are just amazing. Bajaj is constantly improving the needs of the customers and applying it in their bikes. Bajaj engine some say might be a let down later, who cares?Who wants to ride a two wheeler for more than 5 yrs or 40000kms? My mindset is to change a bike every 5yrs bcoz designs change, technology changes then why not change the bike?
So if you say Honda engine can run for 1 lakh kms, who wants so much? About maintenance, Bajaj has been troublesome for a few. But there are indeed quite a few who have found Pulsars to be very solid and maintenance free. I have used P150 for 5yrs and I have spent 4k per year on an avg which incl 3 accident repairs.
I was happy with it otherwise why would I again invest my hard earned money again on a Bajaj bike? and remember in between I did take a new Standard Bullet and had to sell it off in 3 months for this new Pulsar 220. But thank god better late than never, I took a new P220 DTSi.
Yamaha’s also claims of beating Pulsar 220, Fastest Indian I think it is false because any bike can be modified to improve performance. The way the bike behaves in stock condition is what should be taken for the sake of general comparison. and that too their kit is around Rs.30,000. Pulsar 220 is designed to be powerful as well as fuel efficient. Once you don’t want fuel efficiency do something on the engine and Iam sure it can take on a modded R15 and make it eat dust.

Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTSi Ownership Review

I learnt riding vehicles on my own except car as my parents are in fear of accidents that we all see daily. My first vehicle was Bajaj Chetak scooter, and I was in 8th Standard(year Y2k). Right from my cycling days in 7th standard (year 99) I am very much passionate about 2 wheelers. Out of my passion I started learning scooter which is available in my grandmother’s house. My mother’s brother was using it.
Every weekend my family used to go to my grandmother’s house and I used to push the scooter up the road and then I sit on it and learned balancing it all the down. I did this for almost every Sunday till 3 months. I promised my parents that I do not start the engine but once I succeeded in convincing them to switch on the engine after practicing to balance the vehicle well.
This is the day which I can never forget in my life. As usual I pushed the scooter up the road and sat on it. I know that I don’t have enough strength to start the engine by using its kick start but I am talented enough to start the engine by shifting up the gear and releasing the clutch when its well balanced while traveling down the road. I had enough of visual experience of this procedure but that was the first day when I implemented.
My experience can not be put in words but let me give it a try. First time when I decided to start the engine I was in fear so I did tried to start at all second time also I had a fear so I thought so many times and then I decided to shift up the gear and release the clutch and I did, but unfortunately it was already too late so the scooter stopped instead of starting the engine. And finally I realized that I am over cautious because all my relatives are watching me. So I asked everyone to resume to their work and I tried again. Friends this time I succeeded but when I accelerated it started I thought that was the last time I saw my parents.
I felt as if I am dying. My breath stopped for a while. I felt my heart was slowly following me and I am traveling too fast for it to reach me. Because it is traveling in 20kmph and 25kmph for accelerating it once in second gear. Immediately I applied breaks and stopped it so that my heart reaches me before my breath stops forever, but forgot to apply clutch so engine is off again. I was lost for a minute and then felt happy and was very eager to tell everyone that I started the engine by my own. This feeling is really inexpressible or more than what I expressed. Later practiced it well but always had the fear of over accelerating it.
That’s the day when I realized two wheels with an engine travels effortless when compared to the same two wheels with out an engine and yes I am talking about the difference between a scooter and a cycle.
As years passed by I grew up and moved to higher and higher classes but I did not improve my skills in riding scooter because its not well maintained and parents advised me to postpone my idea of improving my skills.
When I was in 10th standard my dad bought a Hercules cycle for me. By now you all must have understood that I am very much passionate in riding a 2 wheeler. I used to ride my cycle for 20kms on beach road, everyday at 5 am during summer holidays and Sundays are very special to me because only on Sundays I get a change to ride 10km to my grandmother’s house and 10km back home apart from the early morning ride of 20kms on beach roads. So almost all Sundays I had a chance of riding my cycle for 40 kilometers.
As I grew up my passion for 2 wheelers also increased. Because I had no experience in bike riding I decided to go for seconds. My first bike Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTSI 2004 model. Its was gifted by my dad. I had no experience in riding a bike but still I went for one of the heaviest bikes in 2005. Just like my days when I learnt on chetak I started learning Pulsar but this time I had less fear and soon after taking it into traffic all my fear just vanished. I thought I got something to satisfy my passion and so I did. I am the one who always participated and encouraged all my friends for long trips on bikes.
Before going for Pulsar I heard a lot about the increased accidents in my city and poor Pulsar is one of the reason for most of the accidents in fact it’s the only reason for accidents. Then I started enquiring about the reason for accidents. Most of my friends said all that’s because of the front disc break. One of my friends riding Pulsar 150 asked me if I am very much passionate in bikes and if I ride safely or not. My answer till date did not change and the answer is safety first no matter what happens. So he suggested to go for Pulsar to satisfy my passion. And so I did.
I had enough of memories with my bike I traveled to Araku valley which is 110km away from Visakhapatnam. I love to ride my bike on the mountain roads or curvy roads. And the longest distance traveled on my 150 cc bike is 160 kilometers way to Kakinada and back to Visakhapatnam totaling to 320 kilometers with my mom in single day. Hats off to my mom. She is worried of me and so she joins for a ride with me.
One sad morning most of those memories erased just like that and started making me depress day by day because people whom I liked the most left me with their memories with me and my bike and they were busy looking out for their own life. I am still struggling to come out of this situation as a part I decided to have major changes in my life so that my thoughts keep changing.
My bike kept me away from tears and pains: Because I love riding I always have my complete concentration on road and traffic so I forget every problem of mine when I am riding. I always ride happily.
And finally thr time has arrived for me to decide between Yamaha R15 and Bajaj Pulsar 220 in the month of January 2010, because I need a very big change in my life and the biggest possible for me is changing my bike.
I saved 50K and I thought of going for finance but fortunately as my brother decided to gift me a bike because I am very much interested in bikes.
(Thanks for your patience in reading my lengthy review but still I am yet to go about my Pulsar 220 DTSI.) Which bike should I go for: I like riding a lot so for me top speed and pick up matters a lot. So Pulsar 220 is the only one came to my mind but R15 also a good one I was confused to choose between these two. later while I was browsing the internet I realized that pulsar is worth for 80k and R15 is over priced.
I browsed internet and read magazine which made me know most of its features. Handling was good for pulsar 150 which I used and in one of the magazine’s I read that Bajaj improved its bike’s handling by the help of KTM technologies. And that’s true.

Bajaj Pulsar 135 LS Ownership Review

I own a black Bajaj Pulsar 135 LS. It has covered 3,500 kms on odo. I would like to include the following attributes which are important for any bike

Looks

This is totally subjective. I personally like the novel design and the “extra terrestrial” looks of the bike. Honda Stunner may have better looks than Bajaj Pulsar 135 LS.
The rear split fenders look far better than the old version rear tire hugger. I just hated the old tire hugger but this new version is good. Honda Stunner offers competition in terms of looks but others like Shine, Glamour, Super Splendor, Slingshot and 150 cc’s like CBZ Xtreme, Suzuki GS, Discover 150 etc cannot claim better looks than P135.
Well let me remind you this is my personal opinion and you may feel I am wrong. The split seats and half chain cover adds to the sporty look of the bike.

Performance

I have covered 3,500 kms on my bike. Just ride the bike to believe it. It offers good performance with the best mileage. I am not kidding. I didn’t have much expectations when I bought this bike because I had a test drive on Honda Stunner and was not satisfied with its performance.
I thought Bajaj Pulsar 135 LS will also be similar to Stunner in terms of performance irrespective of the increased displacement. But, beleive me the 13.5 bhp engine supplemented by the 4 valve technology gives you a smooth and powerful ride. Very slight vibrations creep in at 55-60 km/hr but they are so nominal that we hardly ever notice them. Serious vibrations start at 70 km/hr and ends at 75km/hr. above 75 , the engine is really smooth.
I have attained a top speed of 107 km/hr and the bike offered superb control and confident ride. The bike becomes more smooth at top speeds. It has good acceleration which helps you stay ahead when the light goes green. The bike has good control in city traffic. I have also done several long trips on highways and the bike remained stable. Engine heating up is just like the 150 cc machines in the market.
Throttle response is remarkable which helps in overtaking without much efforts.I am not trying to say that P135 is much better than all 150 cc bikes, but I am sure that it can beat some of the so called powerful 150 cc machines. HH Hunk is having 14.5 bhp and Bajaj Pulsar 135 LS is only 1 ponit behind with 13.5 bhp.
So it is clear that Pulsar 135 can catch up with or even beat many of the 150 cc bikes. I can clearly say that it faces no competition from the 125 cc bikes like Stunner, Shine, Slingshot, Glamour etc in terms of power and performance. Trust me this bike is for those who want performance which which equals to leading 150 cc bikes at the price of a 125 cc machine.

Mileage

I don’t know whether you guys believe what I am going to say. I got 70 kmpl on highways. Believe me. After 1st service i was getting mileage around 50- 53kmpl. But now I am getting 60kmpl average in cities and 70kmpl on highways when I rode at speeds varying between 60- 65kmph. I am really amazed by these results when taking into consideration the power and performance delivered by it. Eventhough tank capacity is only 8 litres(excluding 2lt reserve), excellent fuel efficiency solves the issue. I don’t know much about 4 valve technology but its really working wonders for this machine.

Comfort

The short clip ons and the slightly forward leaning sitting posture offers a comfortable drive. For long drives the slightly hard seat causes some problems to your back. A continuous one and half hour drive will force you to rest for a while. After all who doesn’t want to take a break after a one hour thirty minutes ride? Bajaj can make CBZ Xtreme a model for designing its seat cushion. The clip ons offer a superb sitting posture which offers a positive attitude and confidence in riders. The knee recess on fuel tank is good. Ladies will find it difficult to sit in the side ways posture due to the height of the rear.

Braking

The front disk brakes perform well and I have not tested it just for the sake of testing it at high speeds. The rear brakes are also good enough to perform its roles.
Price: I am from Kerala and I spent 62k for this fighter. I feel it is reasonable as the 125 cc 11 bhp Honda Stunner costs more than that.

Conclusion

In my opinion, Bajaj Pulsar 135 LS is a value for money bike which gives you the best in class performance with superb mileage. Each and every bike is unique and no bike is a bad bike. Honda Stunner, Shine, Glamour etc may have certain qualities which outperform Pulsar 135 LS, I admit. But I am really satisfied with this fighter.
Thank you for reading my review. Have a great time guys.
